Quick Reference
NI — Not Interested
What NI Means
The contact was reached but expressed no interest in the product or service. Unlike DNC, the contact has not explicitly requested to not be called — only indicated no interest in this specific offer at this time.
When This Status Is Set
NI is set by agents when a contact is reached, engages in conversation, but explicitly declines the product or service being offered. The critical distinction between NI and DNC is that the contact has not requested to be removed from call lists — they simply said “no” or “I’m not interested” to this particular offer at this particular time. Agents select NI from the disposition screen after the call ends, and the status is written to vicidial_list. NI represents a confirmed human contact on a working number who heard at least a portion of the pitch, making it a valuable data point for script effectiveness analysis. Some operations further segment NI with custom substatus codes (NI-PRICE, NI-TIMING, NI-COMPETITOR) to capture the specific objection reason for targeted re-engagement.
Impact on List Management
NI leads can be recycled after an appropriate delay, especially if the product offering, pricing, or campaign messaging changes. Include NI in dial_status_filter for dedicated re-engagement campaigns rather than your primary sales campaign — calling a contact back with the same script they already rejected is ineffective and risks pushing them to request DNC. Set the lead_recycling delay for NI to a minimum of 30-90 days depending on your industry and the sensitivity of the product. High NI rates (above 40% of contacted leads) are a strong indicator of poor list targeting, weak scripts, or a mismatch between the offer and the audience — analyze NI rates by list_id, agent, and time-of-day to identify which variable is driving the rejection. The vicidial_log records for NI calls include talk time duration, which correlates with how far into the pitch the contact listened before declining.
Best Practices
-
Do not immediately recycle NI leads — a minimum 30-90 day delay is recommended to avoid annoying contacts and risking DNC requests
-
Track NI rate by agent to identify script delivery or objection handling issues — agents with unusually high NI rates may need coaching
-
Create NI-specific re-engagement campaigns with updated messaging, different offers, or seasonal promotions
-
Agents must not set NI when a contact requests DNC — train agents to distinguish between “not interested” and “stop calling me,” using DNC status for the latter
-
Capture objection reasons in a custom field during NI disposition to enable targeted re-engagement (e.g., contacts who said “too expensive” receive a discount offer)
Admin Configuration
NI is a campaign-level status defined in Campaign Detail → Statuses (or globally in Admin → System Statuses) with callable set to Y and selectable set to Y. The recycling delay for NI is configured in Campaign Detail → Lead Recycling, where you set the attempt_delay and attempt_maximum for this status. For operations that want to capture objection reasons, add a custom disposition subcategory or required agent note field through Campaign Detail → Disposition Settings. NI reporting is available through Admin → Status Category reports, and per-agent NI rates can be pulled from vicidial_agent_log joined against vicidial_log.
ViciStack’s List Management module monitors disposition distribution in real time — automatically adjusting recycling logic, dial_status_filter priorities, and hopper fill strategies based on how your dispositions are trending. No manual SQL, no spreadsheet audits.
