What AL Means

Indicates the system automatically dialed an alternate phone number for this lead (using the auto_alt_dial feature) after the primary number resulted in no answer, busy, or disconnected.

When This Status Is Set

AL is assigned when VICIdial’s auto_alt_dial feature triggers an automatic dial of an alternate phone number stored in the lead record after the primary number produced a non-contact result such as NA, B, or DC. The system reads from the alt_phone, address3, or custom phone fields defined in the campaign’s auto-alt-dial configuration, and places the call without agent involvement. The AL status is written to the vicidial_list table to track that this lead has been through the alternate-dial process, distinguishing it from leads that were only attempted on their primary number. This separate tracking is critical for measuring whether your alternate phone data is producing meaningful contact rate improvements or simply burning extra trunk capacity.

Impact on List Management

AL leads should be included in your dial_status_filter if you want the system to continue recycling them through additional attempts on both primary and alternate numbers. The key metric to monitor is the AL-to-contact conversion rate compared to the primary number’s conversion rate — if alternate numbers are producing significantly more DC or NA outcomes than primary numbers, your alternate phone data source needs improvement. When configuring lead_recycling for AL, consider that these leads have already consumed multiple dial attempts (at least one on the primary and one on the alternate), so set attempt ceilings that account for the total dial investment. The vicidial_log table records each attempt with the dialed number, allowing you to reconstruct the full dial history across primary and alternate numbers for any given lead.

• Monitor AL contact rate vs. primary number contact rate to assess whether alternate phone data is adding value or just consuming trunks

• Include AL in dial_status_filter if alternates should be retried on subsequent list passes

• Keep alternate number fields current during list enrichment — stale alternates waste dials and inflate your DC rate

• Configure auto_alt_dial_statuses carefully to control which primary-number outcomes trigger an alternate dial attempt

• Review the auto_alt_dial field order (alt_phone → address3 → custom fields) to ensure the highest-quality alternate number is dialed first

Admin Configuration

The auto-alt-dial feature that generates AL statuses is configured per-campaign under Campaign Detail → Auto Alt Dialing, where you set auto_alt_dial to ALT, ADDR3_ONLY, ALT_AND_ADDR3, or extended multi-alt modes. The statuses that trigger an alternate dial attempt are defined in auto_alt_dial_statuses — typically NA, B, and DC. AL itself is a system status managed under Admin → System Statuses with callable set to Y. Lead recycling parameters for AL are set in Campaign Detail → Lead Recycling alongside other recyclable statuses, with configurable delay and attempt limits. To audit auto-alt-dial performance, query vicidial_log and compare contact rates between calls placed to the primary phone_number field and calls placed to alt_phone or address3 fields for the same lead_id.
