Preview Dialing
Preview dialing is an outbound dialing mode that presents lead information to the agent on their agent screen before the call is placed. The agent reviews the lead’s details — name, history, notes, and any custom fields — and then decides when to initiate the call, giving them time to prepare for a personalized conversation.
How It Works in VICIdial
In VICIdial, preview dialing is activated by setting the campaign dial method to “MANUAL” with lead previewing enabled. When an agent becomes available, the system pulls the next lead from the hopper and displays the lead’s information on the agent interface. The agent can review the data, check previous dispositions and callback notes, then click to dial when ready.
Some VICIdial configurations allow a preview timeout, which automatically dials the lead after a set number of seconds if the agent has not initiated the call. This prevents agents from spending excessive time in preview mode while still providing the preparation benefit.
Why It Matters
Preview dialing is essential for high-value sales environments, complex B2B calls, or situations where personalization directly impacts conversion rates. While it produces fewer calls per hour than predictive or progressive modes, the quality of each interaction is significantly higher.
This mode is also valuable for compliance scenarios where agents need to verify lead consent status or review account details before making contact. Industries like financial services, healthcare, and legal often mandate preview dialing to ensure proper handling of sensitive customer information.
