Power Dialing

Power dialing is an outbound dialing mode that dials a fixed number of lines per available agent, regardless of real-time statistics. Unlike predictive dialing, which dynamically adjusts the dial ratio, power dialing maintains a constant ratio — for example, always dialing 2 or 3 lines per agent — providing a predictable balance between throughput and dropped call risk.

How It Works in VICIdial

In VICIdial, power dialing is configured by setting the auto dial level to a fixed value greater than 1 (such as 1.5, 2.0, or 3.0) without enabling adaptive mode. The power dial mode setting determines whether the system dials based on available agents or total logged-in agents. When set to “AVAILABLE,” the system only dials lines for agents currently in the waiting state, which reduces abandon risk.

Leads are pulled from the hopper and dialed in the order specified by the campaign’s lead order configuration. When multiple calls connect simultaneously, excess connected calls may be dropped or routed to a drop action destination such as a safe harbor message.

Why It Matters

Power dialing is well-suited for campaigns where managers want more control over the dialing pace than predictive mode offers. It is particularly useful in smaller agent pools (under 10 agents), where predictive algorithms do not have enough statistical data to calculate accurate dial ratios. In these scenarios, a manually set power dial level often outperforms predictive mode.

The trade-off is that a fixed ratio cannot adapt to changing conditions during the day. If answer rates spike unexpectedly, the abandon rate may exceed targets.
