VICIdial has 3,000+ configurable settings. The most impactful ones — auto_dial_level, adaptive_dl_level, hopper_level, wrap_up_seconds, abandon_rate_target — interact with each other in complex ways that aren't documented anywhere in the VICIdial manual.

Your dial ratio was probably set by whoever installed VICIdial. Maybe it's 1.5. Maybe it's 2.5. Either could be wildly wrong for your current agent count, connect rate, and campaign type. A ratio set for 20 agents won't be optimal for 50. A ratio set for insurance leads won't work for solar.

The adaptive algorithm compounds this. VICIdial's adaptive dialing mode is supposed to auto-adjust your ratio — but it adjusts slowly, responds to the wrong signals, and doesn't account for AMD failures or DID flags. Centers running adaptive mode often have dial ratios that are 30-40% below optimal.
