Closer
A closer in VICIdial is an agent who receives inbound calls, transferred calls, or both — rather than making outbound calls. Closers log into inbound groups rather than outbound campaigns, positioning themselves to handle calls routed from IVRs, DIDs, or transfers from other agents (often called “fronters” or “openers” in sales terminology).
How It Works in VICIdial
When an agent logs in as a closer, they are presented with a selection screen showing available inbound groups. The agent selects which groups they want to receive calls from — for example, “Sales Transfers,” “Customer Support,” and “Spanish Queue.” Once selected, VICIdial routes incoming calls to the agent based on queue priority, agent grade (skill level), and longest-wait-time routing.
Closer campaigns in VICIdial can also be blended. The closer campaigns setting on outbound campaigns designates which inbound groups those campaign agents can receive calls from during idle time. This means an agent making outbound calls can seamlessly receive an inbound call between dial attempts.
Closers can handle multiple inbound groups simultaneously, with the system prioritizing which group’s calls are delivered first based on the inbound queue priority configuration.
Why It Matters
The closer model enables specialized call center workflows where different agent teams handle different stages of the customer interaction. In sales operations, fronters make outbound calls to qualify leads, then transfer interested prospects to closers who specialize in completing the sale. This division of labor improves conversion rates by matching agent skills to the conversation stage.
Closers also serve as the primary handlers for inbound customer service, support queues, and callback routing. Properly staffing closer queues is critical for maintaining service levels — understaffed closer groups result in long hold times and abandoned inbound calls. See the analytics dashboard feature page for monitoring closer queue performance.
