Adaptive Dialing

Adaptive dialing is VICIdial’s intelligent dialing algorithm that automatically adjusts the auto dial level in real time based on campaign performance metrics. Rather than requiring manual adjustment, the adaptive engine continuously monitors answer rates, agent availability, and call durations to find the optimal dial ratio that maximizes throughput while keeping the abandon rate within the configured target.

How It Works in VICIdial

Adaptive dialing is enabled through the adaptive_dl_level campaign setting. Once activated, the system evaluates performance at regular intervals and adjusts the dial level up or down. The primary constraint is the abandon rate target, which is typically set to 3% to comply with FCC regulations.

The algorithm considers several factors: the current drop rate, average talk time, wrap time, agent count, and the percentage of calls reaching live answers versus voicemail or no-answers. When the abandon rate drops well below target, the system increases the dial level to improve efficiency. When it approaches or exceeds the target, the system reduces the level to prevent compliance violations.

VICIdial also provides intensity settings that control how aggressively the adaptive algorithm adjusts — from conservative adjustments that prioritize safety to aggressive adjustments that prioritize throughput.

Why It Matters

Adaptive dialing solves the fundamental challenge of outbound dialing: call center conditions change constantly throughout the day. Agent counts fluctuate, list quality varies by time zone, and answer rates shift hour by hour. A static dial level that works at 10 AM may cause excessive drops at 2 PM.

By automating dial level management, adaptive dialing reduces the need for constant supervisor oversight while maintaining TCPA compliance.
